I read that you were reluctant to play the songs off the new album on the last tour. Is that true?

Doug

Doug -Yeah. We were really burned out on those songs, but we played a tour since then. We did not even want to deal with them. We played, like, only half of them.

How has it been at Warner Brothers? Are you happy?

Doug -Yeah, I am. These days, I'm happier than ever. It's gone smoothly. They have been totally respectful of what I want to accomplish and do. I was a little freaked out at first with some of the stuff they wanted us to do. They wanted us to do more touring, but we have it worked out where we only tour so much so we can be with our families.

How much different is it working for a major label?

Doug -At first I was distrustful because we are dealing with a major corporation. On one hand, it seemed like a total business deal. I just freaked out. It was hard to trust people. But the people I work with are really good. They have to answer to some bottom-line people, but the experience is good.

What about MTV and interviews and that sort of thing?

Doug -Yeah, we'll do that stuff because we know there's kids out there whose only access to things is through Rolling Stone.

Do you find yourselves tempted by the "pot of gold?"

Doug - It's pretty easy for us because we have families. It's my excuse for not doing a lot of things. We tour a certain amount, but not much else.

What kind of a toll does this take on your family?

Doug -It seems to get worse the older my son gets. Then when I'm not touring, I spend a lot of time at home. If I'm not recording or touring, I spend all of my days at home. That's about the only way I can deal with it. It's a lame thing.
