Fastest growing phenomenon is free music downloads

One of the quickest growing phenomena in the world of entertainment is the enigma of free music downloads. Hated by so many people who would otherwise look to get paid through sales, it has quickly become an accepted – even encouraged – way of distributing music. With huge music names such as Radiohead, Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails and even Oasis getting in on the act, perhaps it is time for the music executives to start listen to the combined voices to the people and those producing the music.

Sony – one time protagonist of anyone even suggesting that they got some of its music for free – has even joined in: its entire back catalogue is available through the free music downloads service offered by We7. We7 offers free music downloads and free streaming of lots of music and is, apparently, supported by advertising. Whether this model can last is currently open for debate, but they have been going for a while now without any stem to the flow of free music downloads offered. Good for them.

It is companies like We7 and Sony that will benefit from moving forward in this manner, while others who insist on resisting will definitely suffer the most.
