Notes:
Adam F's early 'ardcore/jungle singles pretty much went the way of 1994, but '95's "F-Jam," "Aromatherapy" and "Circles" caught the attention of jungle's prime movers. The following year's "Metropolis" won Muzik's award for drum 'n' bass tune of the year, and debut LP Colours became one of the most widely respected albums to emerge from the genre.

With his first full-length Adam F walks the line between the atmospheric beauty of LTJ Bukem and the dark, urban drama of the Metalheadz crowd. While most of the tracks fall in the Bukem camp, a few notables like "Metropolis" and "Jaxx" are pure Photek. The standout on this disc is the club hit "Circles", with its centerpiece Bob James sample. If you went to a drum and bass club in the first half of '97 then you probably heard this track dropped. "Circles" alone is reason enough to buy this album, and on the CD you get a Roni Size remix which rivals the original. Adam F couldn't resist serving up a little cheese (check "Music in My Mind" and "The Tree Knows Everything"), but everything else is solid. Like many of the nascent dance music genres, a lot of drum and bass can get boring quickly. Adam F avoids this by mixing in interludes without the beats, or with short tracks that mix into one another. The beginning of this disc is particularly good for the latter. It's also not too scary or anything - the kind of drum and bass you can enjoy at home with a long, thick burning stick of Humboldt county green bud. Speaking of which...
